Do you guys mind if we do a fundraiser for you, and then send you the “help?”
Much appreciate all the help we can get, please keep us in the loop, and we will do our utmost best to provide you with Ruff Stuff to support your effort.

Do you guys have anything we can purchase to support the rescue? Hats, T-shirts, mugs, decals, anything?
Not as yet – working on it, and thanks so much for the interest. We look forward to seeing the logo and shows of support around town.

Can I bring you items for donation, and where would I bring that to?
We are located at 335 Nelson St in Fort Frances, and always appreciate the help, support, and love.

VOLUNTEERS Q & A
Do you need volunteers, and can I help?
At this time we do not have a volunteer base, we do not have a single foster, we do not have a single sponsor, we do not have donors, we do not have events who are inviting us to participate, we do not have monthly contributors.
We want to show you we are genuine, serious, committed, and patient enough to allow this community and vision we have, the time to build itself. As such we have spent all our effort on the dogs, and no time or effort upon “recruiting” as we’d rather those interested, found us when the time is right for them to do so.
To start that ball rolling we’d need help with getting the organizers/promoters to assist us in finding those fosters, donors, and contributors which would then give volunteers much to do but at this time, we manage everything between my husband, and myself. No outside help, just us.
June 1st we’d like to participate in the Fort Frances Canada Day Parade as a canine contingency if you might be inclined to join that fund raising effort, walk a dog, join the BBQ afterwards, meet some folks, and enjoy an afternoon we’d love to hear from you at This email address is being protected from spambots. NEED ASSISTANCE Q & A
What assistance can you offer?
We offer Dog Grooming Services for dogs 25 Lbs or less for a minimum 45$ donation to the rescue
We offer Poop and scoop services – costs depend on yard size, number of dogs etc
We offer Pet Minding (boarding) – Weekend services only - $100 for the 3 days 2 nights paid by donation to the rescue. We put a cap on this with a LIMIT of 3 dogs at a time, and only offer this assistance when we are not mid-rescue. Feel free to ask if we can help you out while you have visitors, or make long drives though; if we can do, we will be happy to do.
We offer Assistance with vet bills – Spaying and Neutering in particular At this time our goal is to assist with the spay or neuter of at least one local dog per month. If you would like to get your animal altered but are having problems arranging funding or transportation, you are cordially invited to come talk to us. You cover their shots, we will discuss the assistance with those alterations..
We offer assistance with training issues on site, and you and your animal must be present. By donation.
We offer assistance with dog food, both kibble and/or Misty’s Mix
We offer one free collar per dog per year. Limit 3 per household.

We offer pregnancy and birthing services to folks who have “surprises on the way” and may not be inclined to deal with potential birthing issues, vet bills, messes, noise, and issues of re-homing.
Option 1 being to bring the dog to us we will manage the pregnancy, and puppies, have your dog spayed, and when she has finished that “fun,” return her to you, with some new training and a whole lot less inclined to wander off on you.
Option 2 being I’ve had enough of this … please save me from this mayhem … I’d like to just walk away. This option will require you sign off on the animal, and provide us a “re-homing fee” so that we can show you signed, and the payment is an acknowledgment so as to ensure the signature is indeed yours – We need that paper trail on our side to prove legitimacy.
Option 3 being I don’t think I can do this, and I’m ready to sign off on the dog. However would it be too much to ask to possibly get one of the puppies back from her?
Talk to us we are here to work with you, not against you.

I’m scheduled for a surgery and I don’t know what to do about the dog, can you help?
Contact us and we can discuss the situation, and needs.

Can I list you guys as a “contact in case of emergency” for my pet?
- I’d recommend you list NorWest for that, and then ask that they contact us on your behalf and let us know what’s going on there.

I’m traveling with my dog/s and I’m worried what happens to them if I have an accident with them in the car. Thoughts?
In time we’ll get you guys window decals for the vehicles so when you have your pet in the vehicle the first responders on scene can get that info and work to place your pet with us where you know they are safe and awaiting your return. For now you may feel free to ask they contact us at 807 274 RUFF or contact NorWest Vet and ask them to contact us … If we get your request, we will be there for you, and them.

I’ve lost my dog, can you help?
We would be happy to assist however we are able. Ideally we’d have volunteers we could call in and raise a team of local pet hunters for you however as yet we have no community support. We would be happy to post your dogs info and missing particulars on our site and FB page, and assist you ourselves though in such unfortunate circumstance. Please contact us.

Can I call you and actually talk to you, my situation is just so complicated, I’d feel more comfortable talking than typing it all out...
Sure – If you’re more comfortable talking than writing, we can be reached at
807 – 274 – RUFF

ADOPTERS Q & A
Can I pre-apply so that if the personality, size, breed, or look I’m hoping to find comes in you can contact me?
YES! In an ideal world we would have 100 pre-approved and ready to go applications, homes, and situations, and as the animals come in we’d know just where they’d fit in best. We’d be happy to work with you this way.

Where do you get the dogs from?
We work with our local vet who sees animals come in at large and without owners, injured and without someone willing to pay the bill, in need of extensive medical care and monitoring.
We are also willing to work with a public willing to work, with us.
We remain willing to work with rescues in the Rainy River and surrounding area, in an effort to assist in re-homing as many animals as possible.
As a recognized canine rescue, we can accept animals found running at large. In the case of such animals we will seek to find their owners, by contact with our local vet, posts on the local pet amber alert pages, posts to our own pages, or contact with animal control services. Should an animal remain unclaimed after the required local period of 3 days we will continue to seek that owner until a full 2 weeks has passed, and only at that time will such an animal be transferred to our “upcoming” page.

How come you don't have very many dogs?
Our work is limited to what the community is willing to entrust to us. At this time, we’re working on building that trust with the community, but as we are currently working with extremely limited resources, our cap remains at 3 caseloads, and their resulting followups, maintenance, etc. If you’d like to be first to be considered when we have dogs available please do pre-apply and we can do all the chatting, preliminary hello’s and that end, thus streamlining the process for you when things invariably “pick up.”

Do you free feed or time feed?
We find a lot of things from resource guarding to aggression at meal time is alleviated by placing multiple food dishes around the house along with multiple water stations. There is always food available, they do not need our permission to eat.

What food do you feed the dogs?
We like Acana. Sadly too many animals show up in less than ideal body condition, so to ensure everyone gets all the nutrition they need, we feed the rescue dogs the same way, and the same food we feed our own. Canadian supplied.

Where do you guys shop for treats, beds etc?
https://www.petonly.ca/ is our secret resource for accessible, reliable cost effective to the door delivery of the munchables. Canadian company, online only sales, no advertising – relies on word of mouth.

Where are you getting your collars?
https://www.hartmanandrose.com/clearance.html/ - great stuff, fabulous prices Canadian company with amazing quality products. Happy to be able to support these fine folks.

What crates do you guys use?
We really like the Littell Pet Crates (you can find them on wayfair) – They’re far sturdier than the wire ones, and the metal bars don’t look like treats to the pups who like a stick to chew on.

Do you offer any “specials” or “discounts?”
Indeed we do.
Animals headed to an agricultural use setting will find a “thank you” is in order.
Friends and family (of friends) might also be offered a “special thank you” referral discount. Mention how you found us!
Moms with pups will also come with a “bonus”
*if the adopter rescues a mom with a pup or
**if she remains available beyond 4 weeks.
**Assumes the mother is available for adoption and has no offer for her final rescue at the time the pups are 12 weeks old. (Mom becomes available in these cases only when the pups are 8 weeks)

What are your policies for Adoption and re-homing?
You can read all of the policies here:  Policies: Adoption and Re-homing
